General Information
There are a large number of symptoms associated with the menopause and they may include any or all of the following. Non-physical symptoms often associated with the menopause include: Depression, irritability, tearfulness and inability to cope, loss of libido, and insomnia. Physical symptoms include: Hot flushes, night sweats, itchiness of the perineum-vaginitis, vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, fatigue and lack of energy, and aches and pains, as a result of the bones softening. This House of Health product has been formulated with the above and other symptoms in mind. The nutrients in this formula are included in small amounts because of the extra effectiveness obtained from their synergistic values. Agnus Castus also well known as chaste berry comes from the plant Vitex agnus castus, also known as the chaste tree. Agnus Castus has been added because it has the effect of stimulating and normalizing the functioning of the pituitary gland thus helping to increase the ratio of progesterone to oestrogen by balancing excess oestrogen. This herb works just as well, whether the person has a hormone excess or deficiency, because it acts as a regulator, helping to stabilize hormonal signals. It has also been shown to stimulate libido, reduce hot flushes, and help improve vaginal dryness and breast tenderness. Black Cohosh is an old Native American remedy. It contains phyto-oestrogens and is excellent for menopausal problems because it helps to balance female hormones, reduces hot flushes, joint pain. This herb when used in combination with Agnus Castus increases their combined effectiveness in balancing female hormones during this period of transition. It lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and reduces mucus production. It relieves back pain, and is good for arthritis. Helps with many pre-menopausal symptoms. Damiana and Beth Root are both used to stimulate muscular contractions of the intestinal tract and bring oxygen to the genital area. It is used as an energy tonic and aphrodisiac, as well as to remedy sexual and hormonal problems. Vitamin B6 A study published in the Journal of Nutritional medicine by G.E.Abraham and quoted in Marilyn Glenville's book Natural Alternatives to HRT demonstrated that "Diets deficient in vitamin B6 produced Osteoporosis in rats. It appears to increase the strength of connective tissue in bone". In their book Balancing Hormones Naturally Kate Neil and Patrick Holford had this to say about Vitamin B6. "Vitamin B6 is needed the production of insulin, so is vital for glucose balance. A low level of vitamin B6 is associated with an excess of oestrogen in relation to progesterone. Vitamin B6 was shown to double the amount of magnesium in red blood cells after 100 mg was given twice a day for four weeks. Vitamin B6 is also needed for Choline to function, and Choline is needed to clear oestrogens from the liver Kelp is important in this formulation because of its high nutritional content, in particular it is high in zinc, manganese, chromium, selenium, cobalt, calcium, magnesium, iron and iodine, and because of its ability to regulate the thyroid gland. Liquorice The Liquorice plant root has oestrogen and progesterone-like effects; it contains quite powerful adaptogens (substances that restore hormonal balance and help to cope with stress). For example, liquorice appears to strengthen oestrogen when levels are to low and inhibit oestrogen when levels are too high. Liquorice influence adrenal hormones, responsible for stress and has widespread uses for a number of hormone-related conditions probably because adrenal and sex hormones are closely related. Saw Palmetto acts as a diuretic and urinary antiseptic. Red Clover The flowers of the Red Clover plant are used because of the high levels of phytoestrogens combined with isoflavones. Red Clover is one of the few plants to contain all four isoflavones-soya only contain two. Two specific 'oestrogen dominance' type conditions that would benefit from the use of RED Clover include fibroids and endometriosis. Ropufa N6 (Borage Oil) Borage Oil has been extensively documented as an excellent source of GLA (Gamma-linolenic acid) an essential fatty acid that many women have found to relieve unpleasant menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, irritability, mood swings, and to help a person "feel normal" and be able to "get on with their lives".
